Siccar Point – Geology
Siccar Point has the evidence discovered and used by James Hutton in 1788 to demonstrate beyond doubt that the earth was a great deal older than the biblical 6,000 years believed in at the time. The ten minute walk through pasture along the top of the Berwickshire cliffs is fitting preamble to the unfolding drama of this coastal landscape and the geological unconformity at Siccar Point, recognised by Hutton as he travelled by boat southwards from Dunglass (close to Torness Power Station which dominates the view northwards).
